- The Orbit Of Earth: Galileo fashioned his telescope out of repurposed lenses from an earlier pair of eyeglasses not long after the Dutch were the first to invent the telescope. He discovered how to construct telescopes with an extraordinary level of power, which he employed in his research on the solar phases of the planet Venus. By observing and researching the identical phases that Venus and the moon go through, he concluded that the sun is the focal center of the solar system, rather than the earth as was previously thought to be the case. After Galileo Galilei’s passing, his innovations continued to influence the fields of astronomy and physics. Once the church acknowledged the validity of Copernican theory, it unbanned Galileo’s publications. Galileo was vindicated as a righteous person by Pope John Paul II in 1992.
